Who Holds You Accountable?

Who Holds You Accountable?

As a business owner, you don't really answer to anyone. There's nobody checking up on you or holding you accountable for doing what you say you're going to do.

I'm not talking about client work - that's different. You have to do that if you want to make money.

I'm talking about all the other stuff. All the promises you make yourself.

  • I'm going to post on social media more
  • I'm going to be more consistent with my blogging
  • I'm going to start writing a book
  • I'm going to invest in my marketing skills
  • I'm going to do more marketing
  • I'm going to be better at X, Y and Z

We have every intention of sticking to it, but things get in the way.

I get it - I was terrible at prioritising my own marketing when I started out. And as for doing any personal writing, that was out of the question.

I'm much better at it now because my business is in a better position. I'm not filling my time with work I don't enjoy just to pay the bills. My prices aren't so low that I'll never hit my financial targets unless I work eighty hours a week.

And because my pricing is more realistic and I only take on work I enjoy, I have the time and energy to work on my own marketing and my personal writing projects.

But even though I have more time to work on this stuff, I don't always stick to it. Sometimes I procrastinate. Sometimes, I don't get around to writing that blog post I've had in the back of my mind all week. Sometimes I spend an hour scrolling on LinkedIn because I'm "not in the mood" to write anything useful.

And this is why I've started Write with Lisa. It's not just about me holding members accountable. It's about them holding me accountable too.

But I get that not everyone wants to commit to a membership or be part of a community. Maybe, you're already in so many that you just can't be arsed with another one.

And that's why I'm opening up my monthly write-alongs on a pay-as-you-go basis.

If you'd prefer to test the water before subscribing to a monthly membership, you can pay £15 to join my co-working event and get the kick up the arse you need to write that content you keep meaning to write.

So if you fancy joining me for some productive writing time, my next event is Thursday 17th April at 13:00-14:30 and you can book here for only £15.

And speaking of marketing tasks, this week's ten-minute task (below) is one I highly recommend you invest some time in. Using feedback in your marketing is one of the best ways to demonstrate credibility. You can tell people how great you are but they are more likely to believe it if other people are saying it too.

Your weekly ten-minute task

The weekly ten-minute tasks are short simple tasks that should take around ten minutes to complete (although you can spend longer if you want to). The goal is to help you improve your sales and marketing processes.

Completing these tasks won't magically transform your business, but doing one small thing each week to improve is better than doing nothing. So block out ten minutes in the next few days and complete the below task.

Create (and share) a social media post incorporating client feedback.

If you completed last week's task, you should now have some client feedback to work with. This week I want you to utilise some of that feedback in a social media post.

You can incorporate a quote into the post itself like this:

Imagine having access to a copywriter’s brain whenever you need it. A chance to bounce around ideas, get feedback on your copy or just learn some copywriting techniques.
That’s exactly what you get when you book a 90-minute consultation with me. You can use the time to work on social posts, review your web copy or get some 1-2-1 training.
Here’s what one of my recent clients said about her consultation:
“I was amazed at how much value was packed into the 90-minute call. We covered a huge amount and Lisa had some amazing advice and tips on how to get the best results.”
Book your consultation today and get better results from your copy.

Or screenshot the feedback and share it as an image on your post like this:

Or share multiple reviews in one post like this:

Why would you want to Borrow my Brain for 90 minutes?
Well, here's what some of my clients had to say...
“I borrowed Lisa’s brain for 90 minutes, but the information will last a lifetime. Lisa put me at ease with her down-to-earth nature and didn't flinch when I asked some really basic questions. If you want to make your business better. Give Lisa your money.”
"Lisa didn't just give me a bit of training; she gave me a new purpose and direction to my business as she really made me think about who my client is, their problems, and the solutions I have to offer."
"I had a copy consultation with Lisa and was amazed at how much value was packed into the 90-minute call. It took Lisa no time at all to understand what I'm trying to achieve and she really helped me clarify my message."
"I had a list of 8 things I wanted help with, listed in order of preference as I didn't think we could cover them all, we did and then some. I also learnt some brilliant hacks that will save me days."
Book your session here for only £150.

Or, if you're feeling particularly creative, you can turn the feedback into an image or carousel like this:

Weekly anagrams

Sometimes you need a little break from work or something to get your brain going while you have your morning brew. That's where the weekly anagrams come in.

And this week I have ten for you - five English rock bands and five American rock bands:

  • maid no rein
  • dinky flop
  • loneliest throngs
  • flapped red
  • steak whine
  • rain van
  • job vino
  • forfeit gosh
  • pie six
  • ample jar

If you are unfamiliar with how anagrams work: An anagram is a word or phrase formed by rearranging the letters of a different word or phrase, using all the original letters only once.

Feel free to send me your answers once you’ve got them all – there’s no prize, but it’s always good to share your achievements. I'll give you the answers in next week's email.

And talking of answers, here are the answers to last week's anagrams:

  • mad stream = Amsterdam
  • baits larva = Bratislava
  • change open = Copenhagen
  • ex mogul rub = Luxembourg
  • solo = Oslo
